Police organized a manhunt for three unidentified men who attacked a house in Senteo, Lakeside, Accra and attempted to escape with an unregistered vehicle, money and other objects after taking the family hostage.
The alleged thieves attacked their victims on Saturday around 1pm, while family members were sleeping at the house near Big Dreams International School.
The trio – each carrying a rifle and one of them masked – broke into their home with the help of a pinch bar and held the family hostage while rummaging through the House.
The alleged thieves allegedly stole an unregistered Toyota Corolla, a 2,535 GH ¢, four mobile phones, an unspecified quantity of badorted drinks and a 42-inch flat screen Skyworth TV.
However, they gave up some of their loot – including the vehicle and the tools used to break into the house – after hitting the police in a shootout after police chase.
Ms. Effia Tenge, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, told The Daily Graphic that the National Police Information Room had received a distress call from about an attack on a family in Senteo.
She added that the patrol team of the Lakeside District Police Command had gone to the area immediately after being alerted.
By the time the police arrived, however, the suspected thieves had completed their operation and left, she said.

The victims – whose identity was concealed by the police – reportedly told the police about their experience with the armed trio.
The police dragged the suspects along the line until they found them near the Ashaiman-Senteo border, where the Toyota Corolla had broken down.
A shootout then broke out between the suspected thieves and the police, but the three men abandoned the vehicle and escaped to a nearby bush during the shooting.
Tenge DSP said that a search carried out on the car had resulted in recovering two black bags, a paintbrush, a jerk, a pliers, a screwdriver, a red mask, a black show and two cell phones suspected of having been stolen. belong to the alleged thieves.
The 42-inch television and a bag containing broken bottles, which were supposed to be the stolen drinks stolen from the house, were also recovered.
The exhibits, including the car, were transported to the Lakeside Police Station.
