The late Corporal Elizabeth Ahoa
A policewoman identified solely as Corporal Elizabeth Ahoa died in suspicious circumstances at a prayer camp in Half Assini, Jomoro Municipality, in the western region of the country, MyNewsGh.com confirmed.
According to official police sources, the deceased was officially in the district of Asamankese and was currently on sick leave. He had gone to his hometown, Half Assini, for treatment, but only to inform his superiors that she had died in a prayer camp.
The leaders of the Adjazer prayer camp are currently being questioned by police about the circumstances that led to the death of the police officer.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased policewoman was dropped off at the mortuary of the Half Assini government hospital for preservation.
This comes at a time when the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has observed that patients in the country continue to be subjected to all forms of inhuman treatment without resorting to their conditions in prayer camps.
He is worried about the disturbing development where these patients are confined to "prayer camps" and tortured on the pretext of dispossessing them of their evil spirits.
"Their fundamental rights are flouted in these prayer camps where some are even chained, hungry and flogged. It will shock you to know that some of them are sometimes chained and left at the mercy of bad weather, "said one official.
Dr. Nsiah Asare, Director General of the Ghana Health Service, noted that the dehumanizing and degrading conditions in which these patients are subjected are very disturbing, stating that this is a violation of their rights.
