Mawutor Avoke Neew Mawutor Avoke, former vice-chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW)

The former Vice Chancellor of the University of Winneba Education (STE), Professor Mawutor Avoke, is questioning the government's position following the Supreme Court's decision that overturned a decision of the High Court of Winneba resulting in his dismissal.

In 2017, Professor Avoke was ordered to leave his VC position at the ETS until a case was brought against him and the university's board of directors was determined. .

The order was issued in a case brought before the court by Supi Kofi Kwayera, who insisted that the Vice Chancellor and the Finance Officer reported to the missing Governing Board of that institution.

The High Court later found Professor Avoke and the school's finance officer, Theopholus Senyo Ackorlie, guilty of buying and financial irregularities leading to their dismissal.

However, unanimously, the Supreme Court overturned the judgment of the High Court. The judges who sat in the case agreed that the High Court judgment, on which Professor Avoke had been removed from office, was upheld. canceled, and was therefore null and void, and without effect.

This meant that Professor Avoke should have been reinstated as an ET VC. This, however, was not the case since the very reverend Anthony Afful-Broni, professor, was named new VC.

In an interview with the media on Tuesday, Professor Avoke criticized the government's response to the Supreme Court decision. According to him, he suspects political maneuvers preventing him from returning to the university, accusing his successor, Prof. Afful-Broni, and the chairman of the board, Professor Abakah, of failing to return to university. having plotted to send him away.

He therefore asks the Ministry of Education and the government to reinstate him following the exoneration of all illegalities by EOCO.

"Anyone who is a critical observer of problems over time will clearly know that certain levels of involvement have played a critical role at different stages of this saga … no claim has been proven against any of we, and therefore it is moral that the stakeholders do the same. is to invite me back to the university.

"I do not see why, after the overturning of the High Court's decision in Winneba by the Supreme Court, I should not go back because some investigative reports have the same mandate as the report. from EOCO indicate that offenses have been committed. One of the basic objectives of the investigation report was to help lawyers bring the case to court.

"What time did it evolve to become a fault finding report? These are the fundamental questions you ask. It is clear that this must indicate the fact that some people manipulate the system to prevent us from returning, "he said.
