Police Thuggery Members of the National Peace Council pose with the IGP, Mr. David Asante-Apeatu

Members of the National Peace Council (NPC) have urged the Ghana Police Service to implement all strategies to end political violence in the country.

The Council launched the appeal on Friday 19 July 2019 following a meeting with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr David Asante-Apeatu, at the headquarters of the police in Accra, to discuss relevant issues concerning the maintenance of order and peace in the country.

Other topics include areas of collaboration between the police and the Peace Council and the challenges police officers face in carrying out their duties in various parts of the country.

They also discussed ways to strengthen relations between police commanders and political authorities and also to promote the professionalism of the police.

During the meeting, it was agreed that the two institutions would hold regular interactive meetings and joint public education programs to increase public understanding of police functions to ensure peace in the country.
