  • The next Taycan Porsche will be able to receive over 60 km of range in 4 minutes of charge, Porsche announced in a press release.
  • According to the manufacturer, this charging time would be the fastest available today, surpbading the Tesla supercharging stations, which allow to recharge the battery of a vehicle to about 80% of its capacity in about 30 minutes.
  • Increasing the charging speed is a priority for automakers and charging companies because charging an electric vehicle takes a lot longer than filling an internal combustion gas vehicle.
  • Porsche plans to release the Taycan by the end of 2019.

According to the manufacturer, this charging time would be the fastest available today, surpbading the Tesla supercharging stations, which allow to recharge the battery of a vehicle to about 80% of its capacity in about 30 minutes. (Tesla vehicles have a range of about 265 to 334 miles, depending on the model and version.) The maximum load speed proposed by the Taycan would be possible with the use of fast current chargers. Continuous support charging rates of up to 350 kilowatts, which are available at 120 of the 191 Porsche dealers in the United States, as well as charging stations operated by Electrify America.

Tesla's charging stations can charge up to 145 kilowatts, but the builder prevents its vehicles from receiving more than 120 kilowatts when charging. Tesla CEO Elon Musk m said in November, the manufacturer would introduce new chargers early in 2019 that would charge "much more quickly" than those available in its current supercharging stations, but without specifying how far the charging speed will improve.

Increasing the charging speed is a priority for automakers and charging companies because charging an electric vehicle takes a lot longer than filling an internal combustion gas vehicle. A level 1 charger can add about four to five miles of range per hour, while a level 2 charger can add about 15 to 25 miles of range per hour. DC fast chargers can add about 50 to 170 miles of range in 30 minutes, depending on the vehicle and the charging station.

Porsche will also give Taycan owners three years of free and unlimited charging for 30 minutes at Electrify America stations, an advantage that the automaker has declared back in the Taycan award. Electrify America plans to install or build 484 charging stations by 1 July.

Porsche plans to release the Taycan by the end of 2019. The automaker said the vehicle would have a range of over 300 km, a horsepower of more than 600 horsepower and an acceleration of 0 to 60 mph in less than 3.5 seconds. The Taycan should start around $ 90,000, according to The Drive.
