Potential voters who waited in long queues to register in the Sunyani municipality appealed Friday to the Electoral Commission (EC) to extend the duration of the current exercise. Registration on a limited number of voters (LVR).

According to them, the number of potential voters wishing to be registered would have increased, although the exercise officially ends on Sunday, July 7, 2019.

They attributed this increase to the arrival of high school students who had reached the age of 18 and returning home on vacation.

When the Ghana News Agency visited the Sunyani Municipality Registration Center at 2:30 pm, many potential voters have been queuing for a long time because they were so frustrated that some of them had been there since three days, registered.

In an interview, Priscilla Osei, an apprentice hairdresser, said, "I have been here for three days and I have not been registered yet because of the large number of people."
She begged the EC to lengthen the term of registration to give any qualified voter the opportunity to register.

Yaw Badu-Amaniampong, EC municipal supervisor, said that it was necessary for the Commission to extend this period due to the increase in the number of people wishing to be registered.

Initially, the Center could register just over 200 people per day, but since Monday, July 1, 2019, more than 350 people are registered daily.

Mr. Badu-Amaniampong stated that the Center could register this number on a daily basis due to the capacity and competence of the registration officers team.

He added that the agents of the two main political parties, the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress, were cooperating with them, adding that the Center had no challenges, with the exception of the government. increase in the number of people.
