Lawmaker declared for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong wants President Nana Addo Dankwa to be congratulated by Ghanaians for saving her from death by suicides due to frustration.
He is of the opinion that some decisions made in the interest of the economy have saved the investments of hundreds of thousands of Ghanaians who would have committed suicide without his intervention.
In an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com, he said that in the absence of the government's decision of the day to consolidate most troubled banks, the savings of more than 1.3 million Ghanaians would have were wasted and many would have died as a result.
"When the NPP government took power, it regrouped all those banks … I had my money at Royal Bank and I still have my account there. Otherwise, the number of people who would have died in this country out of frustration would have been unimaginable. Consolidation has saved 1.3 million Ghanaians who have savings in these banks and Akufo-Addo is to be commended.
Kennedy Agyapong briefly explained: "The banks of Duffuor and the rest have caused a lot of damage in the country. I do not stop asking when they took money from the people of the city of the airport for what did they use the money? Some of them embarked on bad business and others used their money to do politics. Mahama financed $ 600 million to finance Capital Bank, but Capital Bank used $ 130 million to create Sovereign Bank. When they got permission, they took out 100 million HCGs and left 30 million. All these things continued … Royal Bank and the rest. The government borrowed nearly 9 billion GH ¢ to protect these banks, otherwise it would be like what happens in Venezuela. You will have your money in your bank account, but you can not withdraw »
