– Kumasi Prempeh College, winner of the two-day Super Zonal
competition, in Kumasi in the Ashanti region.
In all 46 secondary
schools in the Ashanti region participated in the competition in which Prempeh
College with 99 points to beat its closest competitors, Opoku Ware School,
who ranked 2nd with 91 points while the T.I Ahmadiyya School, the defender
champions, shot 72 points to finish third at the end of the long
competition.
The event was jointly
set up by the Ghana Education Service (GES) and Accra Brewery Limited
(ABL), makers of beta malt, a nutritious malt drink.
Talk to the media
after the competition, Mr. Emmanuel Domenyah, Director of the Physical Education Unit,
Ghana Education Service (GES), said that such competitions were organized to hunt
for and release talents in youth.
He congratulated the ABL
to provide sponsorship and was optimistic that young talent would excel
beyond the region and the nation.
Ms. Portia Offei
Asare, head of Beta Malt Brands, said the company would expand its business
in other parts of the country, adding that "they pursued our objectives
goal of empowering young girls and boys ".
The company would be
award the best tertiary scholarship to the best male and female athletes worth 30,000 GH ¢.
in the national sports festival which is scheduled for August this year, in
Novrongo.
