President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will be sworn in in Parliament tomorrow, January 7, to begin his second 4-year term.
The investiture, which accompanies the swearing-in of Vice President-elect Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, would be attended by heads of state and guests from across the continent as Nana Akufo-Addo outlines her second-term program to Ghanaians and the world, as the 8th President of the Fourth Republic.
The nation’s capital looks set for the big event with main streets and road intersections decorated in the colors of the national flag and photos of the president-elect and vice-president-elect.
The inauguration should be characterized by cultural exhibitions and a parade of the military.
The dissolution of the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic at midnight today will be done in accordance with Article 113, paragraph 1, of the 1992 Constitution, to pave the way for the investiture of tomorrow.
The president, in 2016, promised free secondary education and industrialization and was declared the winner by the electoral commission in the December 2020 elections for a second term in order to “consolidate the gains”.
President Akufo-Addo delivered his last state-of-the-nation speech on Tuesday, January 5, in accordance with article 67 of the Constitution.
In his speech, the President described the Seventh Legislature as “the busiest of all time and arguably the most productive”, saying: “You have passed nearly 50 pieces of legislation …”
