President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday announced the first phase of Phase II of the Kumasi Central Market Redevelopment Project and its badociated infrastructure.
The Kumasi Central Market Redevelopment Project, worth € 248 million, will be financed by the Deutsche Bank of Germany, with a UK Export Credit Guarantee Export Finance (UKEF).
Once completed, the refurbished market will include 6,500 rented commercial spaces; 5,400 closed stores; 800 kiosks; 50 restaurants; 210 fishmongers and butchers; 40 livestock shops; and 1,800 m2 of community facilities.
In addition, the project will also provide other essential facilities such as a waste treatment plant, a police station, a fire station, post offices and an amphitheater.
The construction will be undertaken by MM. Contracta Construction Ltd, United Kingdom, and should be completed within 48 months.
President Akufo-Addo, speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the works at Kejetia, said that the launch of the redevelopment market project, as well as many other ongoing projects in the region.
