Divided from the Volta region, Oti, officially the 16th administrative region of Ghana, was one of six regions created after the referendum of last December to reorganize the 10 existing regions to facilitate development and development. accelerate the decentralization of the governance process.

Mr. Archibald Letsa, Regional Minister of Volta, would administer the region until a deputy minister was appointed.

As a result, Ghana now consists of Upper East, Upper West, Northern, Savannah, North East, Brong Ahafo, Bono East, Ahafo, Western North, Western, Eastern, Ashanti, Central, Greater Accra, Volta and Oti. .

An amount of 20 million GHC each was earmarked for start-up funding for the six new regions created from the Northern, Western, Brong Ahafo and Volta regions.

President Akufo-Addo badured the people of the Oti region that the government was committed to promoting the growth and development of the region and that he would spare no effort to ensure that his projects and projects infrastructure reaches all regions of the region.

He urged the leaders and inhabitants of the new region, as well as the five other regions, which were created in strict compliance with the provisions of the Constitution, to work together to make their regions bigger.

The President said that the government will maintain the momentum that has characterized the creation of the new regions and accelerate the process to bring them into line with all other existing regions.

For example, a committee of seven ministers, chaired by the Minister of Regional Reorganization and Development, Mr. Dan Botwe, was created to plan the immediate, short, medium and long term development of the new regions.

The Committee includes the Ministers of Planning, Professor Gyan Baffuor, Local Government and Rural Development, Ms. Alima Mahama, Special Initiatives for Development, Ms. Mavis Hawa Koomson, Finance, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, National Security, Mr. Albert Kan Dapaah and Presidential Advisor, Dr. Kwame Amoako Tuffuor, as members.
