The party of Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir decided to postpone indefinitely its general convention which was to elect a new leader after the veteran leader had entrusted the direction of the party to his deputy.
The general convention of the National Congress Party (NCP), which was held once every four years, was scheduled for next month, but the exact dates were not announced.
"The council of the shura party … decided to suspend for an indefinite period the holding of the general convention because of the current situation in the country," said Saturday to the press Mohamed el-Hbadan el-Amien, leader of the NCP.
Bashir, who normally attends meetings like the one on Saturday, was not present.
