Moree (C / R) July 27, GNA – The President
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo Friday cut the grbad for the construction work to
start at the Moree fishing site to stimulate fishing activities in the
area.
The project, which should be
completed within eighteen months, is the first of six to be built by the
China Habour Engineering Company in Central Region.
It would include a cold store, making ice
installation, net repair, portable water and electricity, laundry and toilets
establishment with a nursery and an adjoining nursery.
S addressing the inhabitants of Moree to the second
day of his tour in the central region, said President Akufo Addo, the project
part of the government's desire to transform the fishing sector.
He stated that eleven of these landing sites would be
be built along the coastline of the country and the central region will be
to have six; Western and Greater Accra, two each; and one in the Volta region.
The President stated that the grbad cut is a
indication that he was keeping his promises to Ghanaians and urged the
leaders and residents of Moree to cooperate with Chinese entrepreneurs to ensure
the quick completion of the project so that they can enjoy it.

Minister, said that the construction of the mini-port would help solve the problems
post-harvest losses, unhygienic conditions and added value
meet international export standards.
He said the project would improve fishing
activities and ultimately improve the standard of living of the inhabitants of Moree
and urged them to take ownership of the project and ensure its success
completion.
The previous government, he noted, did not show
commitment to build the mini habours even though they had more opportunities
to do so, adding that the NPP government would keep its promise of
transform the fishing industry.
Ms. Elizabeth Afoley Quaye, Minister of
Development of fisheries and aquaculture, is pleased that the project that
started under the regime of former president Kuffour finally saw the light of
day.
She said that the government is determined to put
in place the necessary measures to transform the fisheries sector by adding that
building infrastructure such as landing sites would go a long way to
prevent bad fishing practices.
She congratulated the fishermen for obeying
with the laws regarding the closing season adding that it was in their best
interest.
Mr Elvis Moris Donkor, Member of Parliament
for Abura Asebu Kwamankese (AAK), said that 40 hospital beds have been secured for
Moree clinic with premixed fuel product.
The nuclear power plant, he said, showed his commitment to
undertake interventions to eradicate poverty, in particular
fishing communities to improve the living conditions of people.
Okataky Amanfi V, Omanhen from Asebu Traditional
Region, thanked the president adding that the construction of the landing site at
Moree was a step in the right direction because Moree is one of the oldest
fishing communities of the country.
