Former Auditor General Daniel Yao Domelevo revealed that President-elect Akufo-Addo in 2016 had encouraged him to accept John Mahama’s appointment.

The anti-corruption crusader has been invited by the presidency to retire on the grounds that he is over the age of 60.
This was after he had served his 167 mandatory days off, as ordered by President Akufo-Addo.
In a letter signed by President’s Executive Secretary Nana Bediatuo Asante, he said Mr Dormelevo turned 60 last year and was therefore deemed to have reached compulsory retirement age.
However, the decision to retire him has been criticized by many civil society groups and figures, including Edem Senanu, Franklin Cudjoe, Professor Stephen Asare, among others.
They said that for someone who has saved the public purses from selfish and greedy public servants, you should keep your job, not kick it out.
Domelevo cancels Mahama’s appointment

Mr. Domelevo’s move to Auditor General was one of the few appointments he made before the end of his term.
There are reports that the outgoing president was making last-minute appointments to key public office to frustrate the incoming administration, although the 1992 Constitution gives him the power to make such appointments.
But Mr Egbert Faibille Jnr said the newly sworn-in Auditor General seemed to have heard about the controversy surrounding the appointment and therefore decided to reject it because he was satisfied with his international work.
But, Mr. Domelevo rejected the requests.
He told reporters at Flagstaff House just after he was sworn in that, “When the appointment was given to me, I thought I should go back to my former employers.
“I was at the World Bank. It was not good for them to see on the news that I was appointed, so I asked permission to come back before entering and accepting. “
Nothing wrong with the timing of my date
Mr Domelevo said he saw nothing wrong with the timing of his appointment, and also felt that this would not create any problems between him and the new Nana Akufo-Addo administration.
“I don’t think there will be any problems. One aspect of the Auditor General is his independence. And so, if one administration appoints you to work with another administration, that better guarantees your independence, ”he said.
He added: “I wish the country could even pass this, that whenever there is an outgoing administration they appoint an auditor general so that he is not under the influence of whoever is. appointed and that he owes no allegiance to whoever enters. So I think we should thank God for this time.
