ISLAMABAD: According to President Arif Alvi, Pakistan is facing hepatitis disease despite limited resources.
Speaking at a seminar on World Hepatitis Day in Islamabad on Sunday, he said the prevalence of hepatitis C was increasing in Pakistan because of the consumption of hepatitis C in Pakistan. water and unhealthy food.
He added that the use of unsafe syringes is also a contributing factor to the spread of this disease.
He said that it was better to prevent than cure hepatitis and to focus on preventive medications in the programs of medical schools.
The president said Pakistan was taking bold steps to eliminate hepatitis and other diseases despite limited resources.
He added that we needed to take a systematic approach to addressing the health challenges by improving the awareness mechanism using the education system and sending staff to households and the media.
He said that spreading awareness of the disease was also the responsibility of the physicians who worked among the population and that they should also be engaged in raising awareness among the general public.
He added that Pakistan also faces malnutrition, stunting and other health problems for which a comprehensive policy should be developed.
He also asked the government to review the national policy on hepatitis. He urged private institutions to join the government in dealing with health problems, as these problems can not be solved without private partnership.
Earlier, Dr. Zafar Mirza, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Health, said the government would announce a comprehensive package of measures to combat blood-borne diseases, including hepatitis.
He added that the government is putting in place a health system and that under this program health services would also be provided in schools.
