Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera said it was “unfair” to blame him for appointing his daughter a diplomat.
“I have made over 2,000 public service appointments, and Malawians have a problem with only one person – my daughter, who is going to Brussels as a diplomat. Why? I am very disappointed. It is unfair.” , said Mr. Chakwera. through his press secretary, Brian Banda.
Since appointing his daughter Violet third secretary at the Malawian embassy in Brussels, critics have shared his old speeches denouncing his nepotistic predecessor.
Banda said the president found it “unfair” to be criticized for appointing a qualified person “just because that person is the president’s daughter”.
Since taking office last year, Mr. Chakwera has made several controversial appointments.
He was accused of having appointed a cabinet composed of a husband and a wife, a brother and a sister and a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law, the majority of which came from the same district or region of origin.
