A Ghanaian architectural firm, Design and Development Associates Consortium, has petitioned the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, about a bias in the awarding of 12 projects of the year. 39 State to David Adjaye & Associates.

The architecture firm headed by Sir David Adjaye has already aroused controversy because of his work on the National Cathedral and the new Parliament Complex.

Design and Associates argues that these two projects, as well as other projects such as the Marine Drive Master Plan, the reorganization of the exhibition grounds and the GNPC headquarters in Accra, were not awarded fairly.

"Our concerns are based on complete disregard and disregard for the principles of transparency, fairness, equity and the laws governing professional service contracts provided by large corporations and organizations. scale. "

The firm is concerned about Mr. Adjaye's legitimacy to practice in Ghana because he is not a resident under the Architect's Decree (NRCD 357).

Design and Associates also reports that Adjaye's firm is recruiting architects from beyond Ghana and ignoring local talent.

"The public has the negative impression that locally trained architects and engineers are incompetent and do not have the skills to undertake such projects in the country, which is totally false."

But the heart of the complaints from the local architectural firm concerned the process of buying he described as "weird".

According to the petition, David Adjaye & Associates was chosen "unlike any idea of fairness to carry out projects when it is clear that any business would be overburdened with projects of such magnitude".

In addition, Design and Associates has refuted claims of fairness in the selection process of at least the new controversial complex of Parliament.

In a letter attached in response to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the competition for the design of the new Parliament Complex was described as "a complete hoax".

Local businesses were excluded from project discussions with various state institutions.

"Therefore, it is extremely outrageous to present the same individual or company as the winner of the alleged competitive bidding process. It can not be said that the public offices involved in the decision-making process were not biased, prejudiced and influenced in their decision-making because of the many meetings held with Adjaye and badociates.
