A sixth grade teacher in one of the Tamale Metropolitan Elementary Schools decided to bear the cost of printing exam questions and purchasing student answerbooks to enable them to to write their exam at the end of the second semester.
This stems from a Ghana Education Service decision to stop charging parents for printing such papers.
The directive that has since sparked public debate has forced teachers to write examination questions on the board for students.
Some of the teachers who spoke on condition of anonymity, help at the table is too heavy for teachers and students.
"I had to print the questions to help the students in my clbad and facilitate the examination process.
Imagine writing more than 20 math questions on the board so these students can answer, how can they write, "one of the teachers questioned.
Another school, quoted by Citi News, revealed that school management was liaising with the PTA to pay 10 cedis for the print.
"The parents insisted that they would pay the printing fees. So we sent a copy of the agreement to the Metropolitan Education Directorate, "said one of the teachers at Citi News.
However, controls in other schools, especially in peri-urban areas of the city, have allowed teachers to write on the board.
