A pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) group, the Volta NPP Grassroot for Justice called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to overturn his decision to appoint the Volta regional minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa for a second term.
The group has threatened a series of protests if the president does not change his candidate for the post of regional minister of the Volta.
Speaking on 12Live on Class91.3FM, Friday January 22, 2021, group leader Mawuli Amenuveve alleged that Volta’s regional designate had courted disaffection with the NPP in the region due to his lack of respect for the chiefs.
Mr Amenuveve said: “Our concerns are simply that Dr Yao Archibald Letsa, the outgoing former regional minister, is not a unifier and apart from going to Hohoe with the president, engaging the supporters of Klefe and Ziave, he did not actively campaign not to talk about his own constituency.
“His lack of respect for the leaders of the region in particular, those of the Ho Central court, a lot of disaffection for the party. He couldn’t connect well with the party people, especially the grassroots.
The group also accused the minister-designate of diverting campaign-period items to other locations rather than to appropriate neighborhoods.
“Most of the articles for the campaign through him did not reach the right neighborhoods. These are some of our concerns that we are raising so that the president does not renew it. He is aware of all these things because I knew of a group that emerged was it in 2018 or 2019 that wanted to protest against him.
The group further accused the regional minister designate of refusing to release money he claimed to have received from Jubilee House for the funeral of the late Constituency Secretary Ho Central in 2017.
The head of the group said, “When people got agitated, that’s when he released the GHS2000 that was given to him, which is not fair.”
“One thing is we know our president is a listening president. We know that if we talk to him, he will listen to us and do what we say, but in case it does not turn out that way, we will continue to take to the streets, we will continue to protest until the president listens to us. . “
The group had previously issued a statement, notifying the police of a demonstration scheduled to start on Monday, January 25, 2021, to record its disapproval and disappointment at the reappointment of the appointed minister.
“We wish to unequivocally state that we, the party base (supporters) in the region, will not accept the said nomination,” the statement noted.
