Dagomba leader Alhaji Omar Hussein instructed the Committee to investigate the incidents leading to the deaths of two people during a youth protest in Ejura on Tuesday, June 29, to fairly discharge their mandate.
Speaking on his behalf, when he testified before the commission on Monday, Alhaji Omar Hussein linguist Abdul Wahab Alhassan stressed that President Akufo-Addo ordered the creation of a commission of investigation to ensure the truth is revealed and the perpetrators are brought to justice.
Thus, it is important that Committee members conscientiously undertake the task of ensuring that justice is done honestly.
“You are all people in positions of authority, so anything you say will be taken by all Ghanaians. So be careful not to dishonor President Akufo-Addo, do not dishonor yourself and do not dishonor the country, ”he urged.
The leader, however, was optimistic that the final decision of the three-member committee will bring peace to the people of Ejura.
“Whatever you do to bring peace to all of Ghana, the Ashanti region and Ejura for that matter, you have the mandate,” he said.
A three-member committee was set up after President Akufo-Addo gave Home Secretary Ambrose Dery 10 days to investigate the circumstances that led to a clash between police and military in Ejura on June 29, which resulted in the deaths of two people. The Committee is also required to submit a report containing recommendations.
The deceased met their untimely death as they protested against the murder of their colleague, Ibrahim Mohammed, also known as Kaaka, which took place two days before the unrest.
The committee is chaired by George Kingsley Koomson, Court of Appeal judge, security expert, Dr Vladimir Antwi Danso, Juliet Amoah, executive director of Penplusbyte, a civil society organization.
