Professor Noel Tagoe calls for depoliticization as a way to fight corruption

Renowned professor of accounting at the University of Nottingham, Noel Tagoe called for depoliticization in Ghana as a way to fight corruption in the country.

Mr. Tagoe, in an interview with JoyNews’ Super Morning Show, said corruption remained a major challenge in Ghana.

He added that fighting corruption from a politicized or personalized approach would not lead to development.

“I think the fight against corruption has been either politicized or personalized. It doesn’t help anyone at all. If you politicize it, you have a bad practice of equalization. You fly, I fly, etc. and things like that so let’s get rid of the political face, ”he said.

Explaining further, he said that “we need to understand that our speech and our stories about corruption affect the way people think of us. [Ghana] outside. Therefore, whether or not they come to do business with us, we have to be quite careful.

Mr. Tagoe noted that corruption can be viewed from two different perceptions, namely; a perception of corruption and a practice of corruption.

Explaining what the two involve, he warned the public to be wary that people’s reputation and integrity could be at stake if both are misinterpreted.

“When the perception of corruption does not correspond to the practice of corruption, it means that someone is accused of being corrupt while that person is not corrupt. We have to be careful because people’s reputation and integrity are at stake. ”
