The UN Resident Coordinator in Ghana has called on Ghana's civil society organizations to promote productive agriculture that will contribute to sustainable industrialization.
Sylvia Lopez Ekra said that it was to ensure a country without hunger and malnutrition and create decent jobs that expand opportunities for inclusive economic growth.
She believes that inclusive governance enhances the transparency and accountability of institutions at all levels that protect the rights of all Ghanaians.
She made this disclosure at the Annual General Meeting of the Ghana CSO Platform on SDGs here in Accra.
The annual general meeting was organized by the SDG Platform of the Ghana Society of Civil Society to report on 2018 and the projects for 2019.
"The United Nations argues that the SDGs are a common agenda, which means that the level of engagement with various groups in society will determine the extent to which we are progressing.
"It will depend on the ability of all civil society organizations, the private sector, the public sector and development partners to commit to implementing our shared vision of humanity," she said. .
She said the UN is working with the Government of Ghana, civil society and the private sector for sustainable economic, social and environmental development, peace and democracy, as well as human rights. of the man.
Adding that their five-year strategic framework, signed by the UN and the Government of Ghana, defines four strategic outcome areas that are closely aligned with the 2030 Agenda, namely prosperity, people, planet, peace and security. partnerships.
"At the national level, civil society organizations play a crucial role in translating global priorities into global agendas, and it is through these that the voices of the people on the ground are heard. civil society organizations that national priorities are pbaded on to the public, and CSOs play a vital role in working with governments to implement their programs, provide services, generate research and data, empower and ask for change, "added Lopez Ekra.
She revealed that the United Nations will depend on CSOs to tell them to stay on track as they all work towards the SDGs.
For his part, George Osei-Bimpeh, president of the platform of Ghana's civil society organizations on sustainable development goals, indicted "It's time to rethink the way we grow, share and consume our food.
"If done right, agriculture, forestry and fisheries can provide nutritious food for all and generate decent incomes while supporting rural people and protecting the environment," she said. she declared.
