(NAPSI) – Nearly one million Americans have Parkinson 's disease (PD), a neurodegenerative disease that affects the brain.
Signs
Symptoms include tremors, mobility problems, sleep disturbances, dizziness, masked mask, low voice and decreased writing.
A problem
People with PD are admitted to the hospital 50% more often than their peers, which can be problematic. Three in four people with PD do not receive their medications at the hospital, which creates complications that could have been avoided in 64% of cases. At the hospital, medication errors can cause one complication in every four people with PD. The sudden stop of the drugs against the MP can even be fatal.
Answer
To help all people with PD get the proper care at the hospital, the Parkinson Foundation has created a free Aware in Care kit. Available in English and Spanish, it contains information for hospital staff about what drugs to avoid and the importance of getting the right medicines on time, every time. The kit is designed to protect, prepare and empower people with Parkinson's disease before, during and after a visit to the hospital.
