Chief Imam 100 New Imam National Chief, Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu

Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, National Chief of Imam, urged Ghanaians to protect the peace that reigns between Muslims and Christians in the country because it is a blessing of Allah.

He said it was the peace that allowed interaction between Muslims and Christians in all businesses and engendered understanding among them.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic in his Fadama residence in Accra just before leaving for the Abossey Okai Central Mosque to lead the Friday prayers (Jummah), Sheikh Sharubutu, who shone in his white dress, said he did not take advantage of peace in Ghana.

He therefore stated that it was crucial that Ghanaians jealously guard the peaceful coexistence of followers of different religious denominations and pray that other countries also enjoy the same happiness of harmony between religious groups.

Imam National Chief has made headlines in local and international media, including the BBC for his visit to the Christ the King Catholic Church near the Jubilee House in Accra as part of his 100th anniversary celebration in April of this year.

He has received much praise for this unique peaceful posture, which he had demonstrated throughout his reign as national leader Imam for over two decades.

This was part of Sheikh Sharubutu's long-standing commitment to promoting interfaith dialogue and peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians, the two dominant religions in Ghana.

Peaceful coexistence

Quoting a verse from the Qur'an, the Imam National Chief stated that Allah enjoined Muslims to be kind to Christians provided that they (the Christians) do not attack Muslims and Muslims. do not prevent them from practicing their religion.

"Muslims had no trouble showing kindness to Christians in order to strengthen their cordial relations," he said.

"Allah does not forbid you (as Muslims) because of the religion of those who do not attack you and who do not throw you out of your home.

Allah does not forbid you to be kind to them. You must do justice to yourself, "he added.

"The peace between Muslims and Christians is a great blessing to Allah and we should not take it for granted," Shiekh Sharubutu said.

The Imam leader said that all human beings had their roots in Adam and Eve.

"We are all one like Adam and Eve.

Our roots are one and there was no need for discrimination or hostility among us based on religion, race, color or bad.

"We are all descendants of Adam and Eve.

There is no reason why we should not live in peace with one another or discriminate against anyone.

The best in the eyes of Allah is the most pious, "he said.

Allah has placed us in tribes, great tribes and small tribes, so that we know each other and coexist without fighting, he said.

Practical example

In giving a concrete example, Sheikh Sharubutu told Graphic's team of Muslims and Christians that their coming to meet him was made possible by peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians.

"It's because of the peace you came here. Without peace, you will not be here. We only do one. Allah says we should live in peace with Christians, "he said.

"Some of Ghana's neighboring countries have experienced religious attacks and other conflicts lately, and we prayed that we would not go through such troubles," he added.

The Imam National Chief has prayed to Allah to bless other countries in conflict to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the country.

Recognition of women

In response to a question about the position of women in Islam, Sheikh Sharubutu said that Allah paid due tribute to women and said that in the Holy Qur'an, every time Allah mentions believing men, he mentioned believing women; fasting men and women on an empty stomach, among others.

In addition, he said, Allah had prepared a special place for believing women in the afterlife.
