The National Democratic Congress (NDC), the opposition, is pushing for President Nana Akufo-Addo to immediately release the full report of the investigation commission Emile Short.
The commission was created by the president to investigate the circumstances surrounding the violence that erupted during the by-election in the constituency of Ayawaso West Wuogon on January 31, 2019, which resulted in many injuries.
Many described this despicable act as sponsored by the state after it appeared that most of the masked men who had unleashed violence in the constituency were part of a pro-NPP militant group.
After the Commission submitted its report, almost a month ago following a public meeting, President Akufo-Addo had still not acted.
But just before the NDC met the NPP on how to curb the activities of party vigilance groups, he called for the publication of the Short Commission.
"We recall that the Short Commission presented its report to the President on March 15, 2019, but that until now – for nearly a month, the President is sitting on this report," said the spokesman. PUBLISH A SHORT REPORT OF THE EMILE COMMISSION NOW.
The National Democratic Congress requests the President of the Republic of Ghana, HE Nana Akufo-Addo, to publish as soon as possible, in its entirety, the report of the Emile Short Inquiry Commission, set up by the President, to to investigate the circumstances the violence that erupted during the by – election in the constituency of Ayawaso West Wuogon on January 31, 2019.
We recall that the Abridged Commission presented its report to the President on March 15, 2019, and that to date – almost a month, the President for an unknown reason sat on the said report. This is a flagrant disregard for the principles of transparency and accountability that the President has vowed to uphold. Although the NDC has boycotted the work of the Commission, we believe that the issue of Ayawaso West Wuogon is of great interest at the national and international levels and that the people of Ghana deserve to know the conclusions and recommendations of the Commission.
What makes this application imperative is that until now, perpetrators of the violence in the by-election who were captured live on video are still free and walk the streets of the community. Ghana. Even more troubling is that we still do not know the status of the police investigation of this case, despite badurances to our country.
In these circumstances, we call on the President to have the full report of the Emile Short Commission immediately published.
