Former Communications Minister Dr Omane Boamah urged the Akufo-Addo-led administration to release official vaccine deployment plan as country prepares to receive 19.5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine at the end of June.
According to him, the absence of a clear plan for the deployment of the vaccine would be detrimental to the effectiveness of the vaccination program that the government may wish to undertake because citizens who qualify for vaccination risk missing out.
“This is also worrying as it deprives interested parties (doctors, nurses, pharmacists, public health and policy experts, journalists and civil society organizations) of the opportunity to make contributions, ask vital questions and institute monitoring and evaluation systems to guide the process if they wish to do so, ”he said in a Facebook post.
His urgent call for a vaccine deployment plan comes after Ghana Standards Authority chief executive Dr Alexander Dodoo revealed that children, pregnant women, people with allergies and health conditions under- patients and the elderly will not be vaccinated against the novel coronavirus. .
Speaking on the JoyNews Newsfile on Saturday, the head of the Ghana Standards Authority said: “Normally, to begin with, children will not be included, they are more protected and they do not transmit the virus. Those with allergies, those with underlying health problems, those with compromised immune systems will not be vaccinated.
Such a revelation is shocking, according to Dr Boamah, as people excluded from the vaccination program as stated by Dr Alexander Dodoo should instead be given priority to avoid more deaths.

“Why should mother Ghana deprive people with underlying medical problems and protection of the elderly if there are no contraindications (i.e. medical reasons for not administer the vaccine)?
“Respectfully, haven’t we repeatedly heard from you and other government officials that co-morbidities contribute to deaths caused by Covid? More questions than answers, ”he says.
He therefore called on the government to prevent any further mistakes in the fight against Covid-19 by publishing a vaccination plan.
“Mr. President, these are the reasons why we need to publish the vaccination plan in the interest of transparency and fairness as we prepare to vaccinate Ghanaians against Covid-19,” he said. he concluded.
