The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has opened its seventh regional office in Sunyani, capital of the Bono area, which is also expected to serve the Ahafo and Bono East regions.

The new regional office will also oversee the operations and services of Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) and Ghana Water Company Limited in their various district offices and zones to ensure they provide high quality services to their customers. consumers.
Until the opening of the Sunyani office, the regional Ashanti commission office was responsible for the Brong Ahafo region, which now consists of three regions: Bono, Bono East and the Ahafo.
The Government of Ghana established the PURC in October 1997 as a multi-sector regulator, under the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission Act, 1997 (Law No. 538), as part of the reform. the utilities sector to regulate the provision of public services in the electricity and water sectors. sectors.
Under the Energy Commission Act (Law 541) of 1997, PURC also has the regulatory responsibility to overload the transportation of natural gas services.
Alhaji Abukari Jabaru, director of regional operations of PURC at the inauguration of Sunyani's office, said the new office would be responsible for handling consumer complaints, adding that "seek redress for unresolved complaints to suppliers collective services will now belong to the past ". "
He badured that Commission staff would always be willing to accept consumer concerns and grievances and make deliberate efforts to resolve them amicably, at no cost to the complainant.

Alhaji Jabaru also announced that the PURC plans to undertake awareness-raising campaigns to raise public awareness of their rights and responsibilities in the provision of electricity and water, as well as other services of the commission.
According to him, "this will allow consumers to demand good services from the public services and also understand the need for consumers to pay their bills quickly."
The PURC Executive Secretary, Ms Mami Dufie Ofori, badured the public of the Commission's determination and commitment to always make the consumer's interest the fulfillment of its tasks.
She called on the public to develop good relations with the staff of the commission and to trust them because they are there to serve their interests.
Sunyani Municipal Co-ordination Director, Mr. Samuel Gyimah, said it was comforting to have a PURC office in Sunyani, adding that it would give consumers easy access to their services.
