A 28-year-old purchasing clerk, who allegedly wasted a sum of 23,000.00 GH ¢ given to him by his employer to buy 35 bags of dried cocoa beans, was granted a deposit of 18,000.00 GH with two guarantees to justify.

The accused, Patrick Amoako pleaded no and appeared in the first instance court of Enchi, will appear again in court on Friday, March 12, 2021.

Continuing, Police Detective Inspector Joseph Kwadwo Agyare told the court chaired by Mr. Eric Baah Boateng that the applicant was the district director of AGROECOM Ghana Limited in Enchi in the municipality of Aowin where the accused worked as purchasing clerk.

He said that during the 2020-2021 cocoa season, the accused expressed interest in purchasing dried cocoa beans for his employer and collected various sums of money.

The prosecution stated that after Amoako received the money, he failed to account for GH 23,000.00, which is equivalent to 35 bags of dried cocoa beans.

Inspector Agyare said the complainant made several attempts to recover the cash or the dried cocoa beans, but to no avail.

He said the complainant subsequently reported the matter to the police after all attempts to recover the money failed.

Mr Agyare said the accused was arrested and in his warning he alleged that he gave some of the money to some of his fellow buyers to purchase the dried cocoa beans to enable him to give them to his employer.

The prosecution, however, said during the investigation that the accused did not lead the police to apprehend anyone.
