SHENZHEN, China (Reuters) – Qualcomm Inc CEO Steve Mollenkopf said he “sees improvement” in efforts to alleviate chip shortages that have caused disruption in several industries, and that he is easier to meet the demand for older chips.
Demand for chips has skyrocketed in recent months, with panic buying more capacity and pushing up the costs of the cheapest components on nearly every chip.
“The market has the ability to respond faster to some of the older nodes than to newer nodes, so depending on the product you may be able to get some improvements,” Mollenkopf said, speaking by video conference at the China Development Forum in Beijing on Saturday.
Speaking on the same panel, Micron Technology Inc chairman and chief executive Sanjay Mehrotra said the chipmaker would aim to increase its supply in line with growing demand for the company’s products.
