For some time, test platforms have appeared for a new platform that seems to eliminate all these problems. More specifically, it's the chips that end up Snapdragon Wear 429 or Snapdragon Wear 2700 could come on the market, but the marketing names are still completely open. Specifically, we mean two "portable test platforms" WTP2700 and WTP429W, which are certainly the same and only carry different product labels.

Relatively early stage of development

You are currently at the stage of the "Equipment Verification Test" (EVT). You want to make sure that these features and all their features work properly before proceeding to the next development steps. The currently tested platforms each have a gigabyte of LPDDR3 memory, badociated with eight GB of internal EMMC flash memory.

Another striking feature is that as a feature of test platforms, the term "Track3" is mentioned – we do not know, but it would be conceivable that Qualcomm refers to an advanced version of the extremely energy-efficient "helper" chips, the already used in the Snapdragon Wear 3100. It performs tasks such as recording steps and other movements while the main processor of the smartwatch is inactive when the carrier is not actively using the device.

The Qualcomm database reveals the new test platform: a customized version of Qualcomm Snapdragon 429, long used in some low-end smartphones, such as the Nokia 3.2 from HMD Global. Thus, as usual, Qualcomm adapts one of its models for smartphone chips and adjusts for portable devices.

Finally 64-bit support

Concretely, this means that in a few months, we will wait for a new Qualcomm SoC Smartwatch, delivered with four ARM cores Cortex-A53 finally offering 64-bit support. In addition, higher clock frequencies are to be expected, eventually reaching the Snapdragon 429 in smartphones up to 2.0 GHz. This allows, among other things, to reduce the width of the structure to 12 nanometers, which allows to achieve a higher energy efficiency.

Of course, then includes an LTE modem with the Snapdragon's "Wear 2700" or Snapdragon's "429 Wear" equipment, as well as finally a possible support for the energy-saving Bluetooth 5.0. Faster flash memory can also be used with EMMC 5.1 support. It remains to be seen, however, whether Qualcomm will badume all the features of the "original" Snapdragon 429 in the new SoC Smartwatch.

However, this information remains reliable, but not confirmed, for a product apparently relatively early in its development. However, the progress in terms of portable chips from Qualcomm are quite welcome, since Google is now treating Wear OS rather in stiefmtterlich, while the technical base is far from following that of competitors like Apple. It remains to be seen when the new Snapdragon Wear-SoC, whatever its name, will come on the market with its first finished products. It may not be ready until next year.
