Deputy Minister of Education Reverend John Ntim Fordjour said quality education will help fight poverty.

The minister, who is also an MP for Assin South, made this known during a two-day tour of some selected schools in his constituency.

The selected schools also received donations from the Minister. The school includes Assin Manso SHS – who happens to be Ntim Fordjour’s alma mater – Assin Amoabin DA Primary and Assin Asamankese DA JHS.

Reverend Ntim Fordjour also urged the pupils and students of the schools he visited to commit to improving learning outcomes and to be innovative in their studies in order to overcome the limits of poverty that is the bane of any underserved community.

He said the government is committed to ensuring literacy proficiency for every Ghanaian child in school before the age of ten.

To this end, it will put in place the enabling environment for learning and the interventions necessary to ensure this outcome.

“Children are the future of the country and nothing should stop them from achieving their dreams. Among them are those who have exceptional talents and skills, gifted and talented children and they need to be guided and mentored in an appropriate manner, ”said the deputy minister.

Some of the items the minister presented to schools included workbooks, pencil sets, pencil cases, speedwell buckets, hand washing soap and a digital piano.

On behalf of the school, the principal, Mr. Seth Adjei thanked the Deputy Minister for the articles and promised to use them wisely.

In attendance were some traditional chiefs, the representative of the District Director of Education, Mr. Alex Adjei, and officials from the Ministry of Education.
