Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, National Chief of Imam, said that Ramadan was a time of great happiness and forgiveness for Muslims.

In an exclusive interview in his Fadama residence in Accra, Sheikh Sharubutu said that it was during the last ten days of Ramadan that Allah sent the greatest book, the Holy Qur'an, to the greatest man, the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH), through the intermediary of the greatest angel, Angel Gabriel.

Quoting a verse from the Qur'an, he says that it was during the last 10 days that the night of power was comparable to 1,000 months.

Sheikh Sharubutu said that the 1,000 months mentioned could be longer, as they indicated that the night of power was worth more than several months.

The fasting of Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam, which also includes prayer and charity.

To fast, Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, smoking and engaging in badual activities from dawn to sunset.

Sheikh Sharubutu told that there was a story of a man in Israel who used to pray during the day but who indulged in killings during the night.

The Imam in chief said that Allah had enjoined Muslims to observe fasting, as had been observed by their predecessors, in the stipulated number of days, so that they could reach the piety.

He said, "It has been a month since Allah blessed anyone who pledged to pray."

"It is this month that we have Lailatul Qadir (night of power).

It is so called because it is the day when Allah decrees all that will happen to humanity from this year to the next, "he explained.

More blessings

Sheikh Sharubutu said that doing good deeds on this night of power was more than 1,000 months, and that meant many months.

"It's Allah who exalts a little job for more work; it's a blessing of Allah.

He looks at the hour of work and the nature of the work.

Allah gives his blessing on whoever he wants, "he said.

Imam, the national leader, said that Muslims were surprised at the man's action and that Allah sent a message that the night of power lasted for more than 1,000 months.

"That night, angels came down, including Angel Gabriel, and brought what Allah has decreed for the man.

It is a night of salvation, the angels send peaceful greetings to Muslims engaged in prayers, "he said.

Eid-ul-Fitr

Sheikh Sharubutu expressed his joy that Muslims conclude the Ramadan fast on the occasion of the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Eid-ul-Fitr is a great day for Muslims because they were badured of Allah's blessings and forgiveness for spending 29-30 days of fasting.

Muslims, young and old, men and women, dressed in their new clothes, converge in the morning to the place of prayer to pay homage to Allah who guided them throughout the period of fasting.

Later in the day, Muslims prepare their best specialties, mostly rice and chicken, rice balls with soup or fufu with soup, to enjoy with the family.
