MADRID (AP) – Sergio Ramos said he would stay at Real Madrid despite a lucrative offer from a Chinese club.
Ramos on Thursday called a press conference to announce his decision, saying he was happy at Real Madrid and that money was secondary to him at this point.
The captain of the team said that he "would play for free Madrid" and that he wanted to retire with the club.
Ramos said that he might consider leaving Real Madrid in the future, but only if he was to play for a team that does not compete with the Spanish club.
The 33-year-old defender has been playing for Real Madrid since the 2005-06 season.
