Nearly a week after the death of a teenage girl who died after an altercation at her elementary school, her parents still do not know how or why the fight broke out.

RaNiya Wright was transported to the Medical University of South Carolina on March 25, after being fought with another student at Forest Hills Elementary in Walterboro. She died two days later.

No information was disclosed on the type of injuries suffered by RaNiya. The Colleton County Sheriff's Office said Thursday in a statement to CNN that the fight was between two fifth-grade students and that no weapon was involved. The school district also did not specify whether a teacher was in the clbadroom at the time or what motivated the fight, reported the Greenville News.

The other student who fought with RaNiya was not identified. In a statement, officials from the Colleton County School District said that a student had been suspended while an investigation into the fight was underway.

According to the WCSC, Attorney Duffie Stone said at a press conference Friday that it was "premature to ask if criminal proceedings would be initiated as a result of this incident".

RaNiya's parents are to bury their daughter on Wednesday.

Her father, Jermaine Van Dyke, asked Monday for answers regarding the death of his daughter during a press conference.

"I want to know what happened, how it happened and who was involved," he said, according to NBC News.

RaNiya's mother, Ashley Wright, did not attend Monday's press conference because she chose the outfit her daughter will be buried in, her lawyer Margie Pizarro told the New York Times.

Pizarro added that the family wanted to know if there was "proper supervision in the clbadroom and what steps were eventually taken by the school administrators to intervene in the fight".

In a message posted on Facebook last week, RaNiya's mother suggested that intimidation was at stake, but this has not been officially confirmed.

A GoFundMe campaign set up to help RaNiya's family raised more than $ 54,000 on Tuesday afternoon.
