Former President Jerry John Rawlings, founder of the National Democratic Congress and Opposition, tweeted his "best wishes" to the party's presidential primaries currently taking place across the country.

Saturday's Rawlings tweeted a terse message in which he also calls for "dignity, transparency, and fairness" in the polls to elect a flag bearer for the 2020 general election.

"Let's do the presidential primaries today with dignity, transparency and fairness. My best wishes to all candidates, "said the tweet.

Nothing clearly indicated when Rawlings would vote, but a number of journalists invaded the party's national headquarters in Adabraka, Accra, where it was reported that he would vote.

Seven candidates are elected to lead the party in the 2020 elections – Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumani K. Bagbin; the businessman Alhaji Nurideen Iddrisu; former president John Dramani Mahama; former President and CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Mr. Sylvester Adinam Mensah (Sly); the former Minister of Commerce, Mr. Ekwow, Mr. Spio-Garbrah; Mr. Augustus Goosie Tanoh; and Joshua Alabi, former vice-chancellor of the University of Accra Professional Studies (UPSA).
