Former President Jerry John Rawlings congratulated the students of Mamfe's Methodist Girls' High School, Akwapim, for winning the 2019 World Robofest Contest held in Michigan, United States.

The ACRO-BOT team of Mamfe High School came first in the United States, Mexico, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, England, India and in Nigeria, among others.

The former president said the feat of Mamfe Girls was the culmination of arduous work and determination of a group of girls eager to explore elsewhere. beyond their school programs.

"This feat is more challenging two years after the school has also won awards at the World Student Students' Cup for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) in Odessa, Ukraine," said the former president. .

"I warmly congratulate the winning group, staff and students of Mamfe Girls for their determination to pursue innovative projects that broaden the academic, scientific and professional horizons of students.

"I want to see the Mamfe Girls showcase more prowess and invite other schools across the country to take inspiration from these achievements and work hard to develop their talents through such innovative school projects."

Former President Rawlings called on individuals and businesses to support such projects relentlessly, to enable more groups to achieve such scientific and professional achievements.

The former president also thanked Dr. Ashitey Trebi-Ollennu, NASA engineer, and his Ghana Robotics Academy Foundation (GRAF), as well as the US Embbady in Accra for their support to the success of the girls.

Ghana's presence at World Robofest was made possible by GRAF, founded by Dr. Trebi-Ollennu. GRAF has been instrumental in promoting robotics in academic institutions through the Robotic Science Education Program (RISE).

Two years ago, former president Rawlings supported the Mamfe Girls delegation to the SAGE World Cup in Ukraine.
