Former President J.J. Rawlings congratulated an unidentified taxi driver for his great environmental practice.

The driver of a KIA Picanto taxi bearing registration number GW 8963-16, reportedly said Thursday morning after emptying the rest of the water contained in his bag on the street, had kept the container empty in his car.

It's a very rare sight, especially in the capital, where the indiscriminate disposal of candy, paper, polythene bags and rubber bags has become a routine.

Pbadengers and motorists sometimes throw all sorts of things into moving vehicles, an odious and largely doomed phenomenon.

The late former vice president Aliu Mahama, well known for the discipline he was defending, campaigned against such behavior. He advocated that to have a clean Ghana, he must be self-disciplined.

His campaign has long been at the forefront of the media, but its impact is minimal given the current sanitation challenge in the country, with trash everywhere.

For Mr. Rawlings, exalted, he could not hide his joy at such a rare show and so appealed to social media to share his experience.

… afterwards and put him back in his car. We would like to see more drivers and especially pbadengers. Let's do some cleaning at the approach of the crucifixion of Christ. pic.twitter.com/kmVbaobxJw

"I congratulate the driver of a KIA Picanto taxi bearing registration number GW 8963-16. I was about three vehicles behind him at a traffic light junction this morning when I saw him pull water in a bag. It was good when he folded the empty bag …

"… afterwards and put him back in his car. We would like to see more of this by the drivers and especially the pbadengers. Let's do a little cleaning at the approach of the crucifixion of Christ, "he tweeted.
