A confidant very close to former President Jerry John Rawlings, the Hon. Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo has revealed that he [Rawlings] confirmed to him that he had indeed flown a jet fighter under the Adomi Bridge which is in the Eastern region.

Afotey-Agbo made the disclosure while speaking on Citi TV’s Face à Face show on Tuesday, January 26, hosted by Umara Sanda Amadu.

Asked by the host whether it is true that Rawlings flew a plane under the Adomi Bridge, Mr. Afotey-Agbo replied in the affirmative.

“It is true that he did this exhibition many years ago and that it is never false news. It is true, it was a fighter plane. Yes, he told me and it’s true, ”he said.

This latest disclosure by the former MP for Kpone-Katamanso settles the ten-year debate over whether Rawlings actually flew a fighter plane under the Adomi Bridge or not.

He further refuted claims that the fingernails of the late Rawlings’ fingers were once uprooted with pliers while in detention after his first failed coup in May 1979.

According to him, nothing of the kind was visited in Rawlings when he was placed in cells awaiting trial for attempting to overthrow General Kutu Acheampong’s government.

“But there is one thing that is known to the public but I can tell you that it is not true. Do you know that Rawlings’ nails were removed during the June 4th period? Do you know this is not true? This is not true, ”he revealed.
