JJ RAWLINGS SMILE Former President Jerry John Rawlings

Former President Jerry John Rawlings will lead the executives and supporters of the June 4th Revolution on the occasion of a tree planting exercise in Accra on Saturday to launch activities marking the 40th anniversary of the event.

He will plant the first exercise tree that will start from the Tetteh Quarshie interchange to Legon ECG Park. It aims to celebrate Mr. Rawlings' environmental credentials.

The tree planting exercise is in keeping with the theme of the commemoration of June 4 this year; "Develop a national character for good sustainable governance".

The series of indiscriminate tree cutting without the need to plant new ones has disastrous consequences for the climate.

"The exercise is about encouraging Ghanaians to re-enter tree planting as a way of life, to mitigate the effects of climate change and to promote a cooler environment," says the June 4 planning committee.
