I read an article posted on peacefmonline titled “We Have A Tradition: Alan Is Next!” in which the author sought to promote Mr. Alan Kyerematen by making inconsistent proposals based on erroneous conclusions. Even though it is almost impossible for anyone to factually prove why Mr. Kyerematen is a better choice to run the nuclear power plant than HE Dr. Bawumia, I still find it very necessary to comment on some of the flawed concepts introduced by the author of the above article. .
Reading the text, one will realize that the author spent more than two-thirds of his article recounting how Mr. Kyerematen, as it is claimed, founded the Young Executive Forum (YEF) in the 1990s to help the party to gain power in 2000. He concluded by drawing a very weak inference from Mr. Kyerematen’s role above: “Really, really, I’m telling you, in a crucial election like that of 2024, unless a man does not know the roots of the NPP, he cannot lead it to victory.
Everything he meant by “… know the roots of the nuclear power plant ..” only he can say, but it is obvious that HE Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, considered the favorite of the main nuclear power plant in 2024, cannot be accused of being “ignorant” of the roots of the nuclear power plant. In fact, it will be laughable and in fact ignorant for someone to make such a claim. The reality is that, an important consideration that has always been the key to choosing NPP leaders is someone who identifies with the tradition of the party, who is committed to serving the party and, most importantly, has the greatest chance to win the ultimate for the party. The case of President Freddie Blay who for a time identified himself as an Nkrumaist but was elected to lead the party as vice president and later president is one that comes to mind. Since his election as vice-president and then president, he has been instrumental in the party’s victory in the 2016 and 2020 elections.
In addition, Ghana’s population is largely a young population, mostly aware of post-2000 political trends in the country. It is this same young population which is always at the forefront of the policies of the party and the government in defense. In the post-2000 period, political trends have become more complicated than they were due to advances in technology. The world has become more of a global village, especially with the proliferation of the Internet and advanced media technology. So, the impact of personalities on the party and the country after 2000 is what is considered very crucial for the future.
To this end, HE Dr. Bawumia has admiredly proved to be an indispensable asset to the NPP and Ghana after 2000. He has been the focal point of a majority of the party’s youth and a major source of inspiration for them that he is the hope for the future. Due to his industrious and impeccable economic prowess, he was appointed deputy governor of the central bank under President Kufour. On this point, it is undeniable that one of the success points of the Kufour government has been the Economy and the Bank of Ghana, which is an important arm in the management of the economy, have largely contributed to this success.
Moreover, the ingenuity demonstrated by HE Dr. Bawumia since he was chosen by HE President Akufo-Addo as running mate in 2008 is not denied even by “the enemy” of the NDC. Before his appointment, the nuclear power plant was still malfunctioning in the 3 northern regions at the time. But close examination of the voting trajectory after the subsequent 2008 election shows how Dr Bawumia’s nomination and hard work turned out to be the magic that gradually turned the North into a battleground for both sides. This singular advantage is something that should not be lost because a mistake in this direction is likely to take us back several years in the days when the NDC could literally fall asleep and comfortably reach the 5 regions of the North.
In 2012, when the party had to go to court for the election results, HE Dr. Bawumia was someone who put his credibility on the line to raise the witness stand presenting the party’s case. This case, the first of its kind, saw Dr. Bawumia’s brilliance and impeccable credibility as a witness win the opinion of 4 Supreme Court justices. To appreciate how unmatched HE Dr. Bawumia’s credibility is, read the comments of the SC judges on the 3 witnesses presented by the NDC in the 2020 election petition.
Again before the 2016 election, HE Dr. Bawumia became a household name in Ghana after literally forcing campaigns to be one based on issues, especially the economy. His fine series of factual lectures was one of the greatest arsenals used against the Mahama administration. To the surprise of many, he won praise from top NDC members who were expected by NDC infantrymen to challenge him. Once again, his hard work has enabled the nuclear power plant to improve massively in the North. And really really, a lot of people who claimed neutrality voted the NPP because of the potential the Akufo-Addo government had with Dr Bawumia leading the economic management.
His efforts in government since we took office in 2016 are not hidden. Most of the progressive policies and the digitization of the economy / institutions have been carried out by him. In fact, it will take volumes of articles to list Dr. Bawumia’s accomplishments as vice president and leader of the economic management team.
Surprisingly and in a contradictory statement, the author stated that he had already campaigned against Alan Kyerematen on the grounds that it was not time for him and that the time had come for him. I shudder to ask, who decides what time is for the individuals in the party? And has he forgotten that President Kufour was not the second in the 1992 primaries, but that he became standard bearer in 1996? Or has he forgotten the roots of the party he claims to favor Alan Kyeremanten? Also, what time shall we say will be for the likes of Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku? Or does the author use two different scales to weigh their favorite people and others?
As a committed member of the party, I believe that it will be in the interests of the future of the party to avoid the incoherent and contradictory path of the author of the article which is the subject of this reply. This great party has enormous potential to break the 8-year chain that has in some way characterized our democracy since 1992. HE Dr. Bawumia is someone that even the NDC opposition recognizes in himself that he has enormous potential to break the 8. As a party member, ask yourself why the NDC attacks are always directed against the personality of HE Dr. Bawumia and not against any other person. In fact, most of their serial callers and social media commentators sometimes campaign for Mr. Alan Kyerematen. The nuclear power plant is expected to make hay while the sun is shining using Dr Bawumia to break the 8 in 2024 In Shaa Allah. It is possible to break the 8 and I am convinced that the NPP will give HE Dr. Bawumia the chance to achieve this important goal for the party and the country.
Thank you
