VAR came to the rescue against Levante and the half back found the correct officials with their calls
Dani Carvajal defended the decision to award two penalties to Real Madrid in their 2-1 win in Liga 2 at Levante on Sunday.
Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale moved away from the spot in each half, either side of a Roger Marti strike, to bring Madrid back to nine points from the league leader, Barcelona.
Benzema opened the scoring after referee Ignacio Iglesias Villanueva penalized Enis Bardhi for blocking a Luka Modric cross with a raised arm, but only after checking the incident on the VAR screen of the side of the field.

Villanueva was sentenced to a second penalty after Casemiro fell to the ground following a frantic attempt by Cheick Doukoure, although contacts seemed minimal.
Carvajal, however, said that he had heard Doukoure kick Casemiro and that he felt that officials had to be trusted to make the right call when the value-added reseller would available.

The Madrid win keeps their title hopes on hold before a brace against Barcelona, first in the Copa del Rey semifinal match, and then in a league match next Saturday.
Carvajal admits that the two matches of Santiago Bernabeu are of paramount importance if his team wants to continue looking for trophies.
"Until math tells us we can not [win the league]We will not say goodbye, "he added. For us, the game against Barcelona is a final, but we have the match on Wednesday. "
