Real Madrid News: Mourinho claims that Zidane is the ideal man for the job

The Portuguese were linked to a return to Bernabeu, but now insisted that the French deserved the leadership position

Jose Mourinho said that he thought Zinedine Zidane was the ideal man for the Real Madrid leadership position.

Zidane was re-elected head coach of Madrid earlier this month, only 10 months after resigning from his post.

The French replaced Santiago Solari, who had himself replaced Julen Lopetegui earlier in the 2018-19 campaign.

Publisher's choice

After the dismissal of Solari, many people advised Mourinho to return to Santiago Bernabeu after his dismissal at the head of Manchester United in December.

Mourinho was the manager of Madrid from 2010 to 2013, but the Blancos have instead chosen to bring back Zidane, triple winner of the Champions League.

And Mourinho himself said that the Blancos had made the right choice, adding that the Frenchman had just started his career as a manager, despite what he had already accomplished.

"I do not think we can still talk about a career for him," Mourinho said about Zidane on Cbad Plus.

"But in a very short time, he did what no one had done before, winning three consecutive champions leagues."

"He's now starting a new stage in his career, he has to be a team, he has to make choices, buy players, sell them, he has to train them, give them his philosophy of the game."

"I think he's probably the best person for this club."

Mourinho did not hesitate to return to the club leadership and said this week that he had already refused a number of job offers.

The Portuguese said he was more and more interested in coming back every day.

"Day after day, I miss training, I will not hide it," said Mourinho.

"There is something in my head, winning a fifth league and a new Champions League with a third club."
