The goalkeeper was trapped in possession of the ball and could only decide in the direction of the Russian winger Denis Cheryshev, who happily converted to cancel the first match of Yuri Tielemans.

Belgium recovered from this shock by scoring twice with Eden Hazard to finally win a 3-1 victory.

But that did not stop Courtois from feeling the full weight of the scorn of the Internet, Chelsea fans fueled by schadenfreude being particularly willing to make fun of their former hero for his mistake.
