Lyon has denied reports that he has agreed to sell defender Ferland Mendy to Real Madrid.

Publications in Spain and France had claimed that the 23 – year – old was about to complete a transfer of 50 million euros (44 million pounds sterling) to the Spanish giants.

Some reports even suggest that Mendy had undergone a medical exam on Tuesday before switching to Bernabeu.

However, Lyon rejected comments that the two clubs have reached an agreement with the left-back.

A statement published on the club Twitter account read: "Olympique Lyonnais denies an agreement with Real Madrid for a possible transfer of its international defender Ferland Mendy, contrary to what has been relayed by some media."

Lyon has denied Ferland Mendy's sales proposals

Mendy is believed to be the target of Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane after an impressive season for Ligue 1 club.

The left-back, who joined French rivals Le Havre in 2017, made 40 appearances for the club in all competitions last season, scoring twice.

His performances allowed him to get his first selection for the French team during the friendly match against Uruguay in November.

He also left the bench in Saturday's 2-0 win over Bolivia and is part of the World Cup winners' group for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Turkey and Andorra.

Real Madrid have hired striker Luka Jovic

Meanwhile, Real is already in the middle of a summer rebuild after a disappointing season for the Spanish giants, who finished them third in La Liga.

With a contract for the Chelsea star, Eden Hazard, Los Blancos coach Zidane, strengthened his team with the addition of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Luka Jovic on Tuesday.

Jovic has signed a six-year contract with the Bernabeu club and arrives for an undisclosed amount, estimated at around £ 60 million.

Serbia becomes the third signature of the summer of Real, subject to medical examination, following the arrival of Eder Militao and Rodrygo.
