Former President John Mahama said the economic difficulties Ghanaians face expose the "lies" of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

Mahana also believes the government will soon be more exposed, the reality on the ground being at odds with the economic figures released by the government's economic management team, led by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.

"You can do all the lies and propaganda with the economy [that] you will love, the reality of people's lives will expose you, "said Mahama at an economic conference organized by the Coalition for Restoration and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Accra on Thursday April 4, 2019.

His comment came one day after Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia addressed a city council in Accra about the country's economy.

Mahamudu Bawumia notably attributed the recent depreciation of Ghana's cedi, one of the main challenges of the country's economy, to the guidelines of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

"One of the conditions for the Bank of Ghana was to increase its net international reserves to the level of December 2018. However, increasing net international reserves meant that the Bank of Ghana could not sell any foreign exchange. market. They basically had to keep their hands on their backs and could not intervene in the market during this particular period. "

"We look to the future," said Dr. Bawumia, "it can be said that the future of Ghana under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is bright and that the growth prospects are promising. "

But at the NDC conference, former President Mahama said the reality was different from what the NPP said it had put in place for Ghanaians.

Bolgatanga Central MP Isaac Adongo, who was the main speaker at the conference, said that the NPP was making little change to Ghanaians because the government had borrowed at high interest rates only to "consume" , thus leaving out investment expenses.

The Mahama administration instead borrowed to build hospitals, roads, schools and power plants that solved the country's energy problems, but the NPP had nothing to offer in terms of mbadive borrowing fever .
