Recall Alert: The recall of Losartan potassium tablets has been extended

Torrent Pharmaceuticals Limited has expanded the recall of its losartan potbadium tablets USP. Originally, the company recalled 10 batches of this drug. The company's officials added another six batches of Losartan potbadium and hydrochlorothiazide tablets after the discovery of traces of N-nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA) in one of the active ingredients of the pill, announced the Food and Drug Administration.

NDEA is a naturally occurring substance found in certain foods, water, air pollution and some industrial processes. It has been clbadified as probable carcinogen for humans.

The recall only concerns products that contain more than the acceptable amount of NDEA, according to the FDA.

Patients on the recalled pills are advised to continue taking them until they contact their doctor or pharmacist for alternative treatment, the FDA announced in its press release.
