NXT came back last night (March 27th) with its penultimate episode before TakeOver: New York. You can find all the results on the live blog here.
The show begins with the NXT championship on a pedestal in the ring. Adam Cole goes first and calls Johnny Gargano in the ring so he can tell him what he wants to do. TakeOver: New York. Gargano obliges. He tells Cole he's been saying for a month that his career ends with this title. And he will show Adam why he will be called "Johnny TakeOver". Cole reminds him that he was not part of the circle of winners Take control often.
Cole tells his opponent he will not be able to beat him even in a fall on two games out of three. He explains how he made his debut at Barclays and how he will win the title at Barclays. Cole then wonders how Johnny won this game. Gargano reminds him that he did not get the same result as Cole. Instead, he struggled to get to NXT. He makes a pbadionate promo recapitulating his career.
Then Adam starts to leave, then stops. He tells her that Johnny can fight and get everything he wants but in the end it's Cole's NXT champion and that's why … so the Undisputed ERA team joins him on stage.
NXT had to suddenly change its story for its main event and they had a night to do it.
They did a very good job selling it.
Johnny has made a very pbadionate promo, summarizing his career and placing him in the position of predilection. (He would have been there anyway, but since he was working at the heel not so long ago, it was a good idea to refresh him.) His account of the trip to NXT was a good way to describe as the face baby who had to work hard. to arrive here. It was not Adam Cole who did it, but he managed to make himself known while guys like Johnny led the way on this occasion.
Meanwhile, Adam Cole told Gargano that he was going to use the rest of the undisputed ERA to help him win.
It will not be the same as Johnny who finally defeated Ciampa to win the title. Nothing would be. But finishing the NXT track by defeating the four ERA members will be fun to watch.
Aliyah and Vanessa Borne against Kacy Catanzaro and Lacey Lane are interrupted by Shayna Bazler, Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir. Borne and Aliyah Peace and the riders attack the other two. Kacy is caught in the kirifuda clutch, but she uses her athletics to fight and bring her to the three women! But it's too much, and she's locked again. After that, Shayna goes to the ad office and tells them that this will continue as long as the champion is mistreated.
There was a lot going on here and it was pretty good.
The tag match that opened things up before the break was solid. Aliyah did not often impress me, but Borne and she find their pace as a vicious team. Lacey Lane makes for a strong face at risk. She is easily sympathetic, she is a girl from the Full Sail region and her offensive is impressive.
Kacy never had the etiquette before Shayna and co. interrupted the match. But his fire was very exciting to watch. Running to the ring to escape the clutch was completely for her. But of course, she ends up choking.
Catanzaro was the perfect choice to make the champion boo as much as possible. She too is very friendly and her many offensives that fought Shayna and her group of morons were impressive, which made things even more frustrating when she was kept to a minimum.
Shayna gave a nice reason to keep interrupting the matches. I appreciated the statement that she was abused because it is a BS charge. This fatal match at 4 to Take control is his fault for interfering with the contestant's match No. 1. Refuse to admit that it's a good heel feature.
Matt Riddle def. Kona Reeves despite Velveteen Dream who intervenes by being rolled on a couch!
Kona Reeves and Matt Riddle had a solid – I can not. All I can think of is the best match interruption of our time! The guy was rolled on a couch by two women and he was drinking in a chalice!
Dream, we do not deserve you.
It almost seemed that Bro, still cool, was slightly shaken by the Velveteen Dream. I wish we had more time with these guys to build that, but it was all fun.
The match was good. Not the best. It's okay. Kona was offended because of the interruption of Dream, but he used it nonetheless. He was wearing a helmet on the ring this time. Keep trying new things, Kona!
Aleister Black & Ricochet def. The Forgotten Sons wins the Dusty Rhodes Team Clbadic
The War Raiders are heading to the ring and the teams are looking at each other.
This match was an absolute explosion.
Everyone came to play, including the Forgotten Sons. When entering the tournament, the Sounds did not do much to impress. But to their credit, they hung with every team they faced at the Dusty. They have been up to the challenge every time.
It's not an exciting team, but a team of heels really should not be. They play their role as heels that constantly reduce our heroes while the great Jaxson Ryker does what he can to deceive outside. And tonight, they brought it to another level. It was by far their best match in NXT. Very good dance partners have certainly helped, but you have to be two (or four) to dance the tango.
Let's talk about the star of this game: Ricochet.
Ric has been in NXT / WWE for quite some time now, but he continues to surprise me with what he's doing. He played the face at risk most of the game, which is a great choice. He is very well beaten. Almost as good as he performs superhuman exploits. To land on the feet after Wesley Blake had toppled from the top rope, then to move his finger with all the braggart was a fantastic moment.
Now, Ric and Black will meet the War Raiders at Take control and this should be another baller match. I do not expect a change of title, but a good match.
It was a very good episode this week. Looks like it's the bulk of the Take control go home and next week may do a lot of hype (although Bianca Belair vs. Kairi Sane is announced) If it's basically the go-home, it worked to help the hype Take control.
