Their tournament ends with a 42-point victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad

They gave the ball and their playoff qualifying chances an almighty blow, but ultimately the Mumbai Indians’ title defense ended in their final IPL Championship game. 2021. They had entered there in the need to win by an unprecedented 171 races, and although they did ultimately win, this margin was always going to prove to be too large despite the power and skill of Ishan Kishan (84 out of 32) and Suryakumar Yadav (82 out of 40).
Two hitters who hadn’t had the fastest time in this tournament propelled Mumbai to a mammoth 235 for 9, but that still meant they had to keep Sunrisers Hyderabad at 65 or less. Sunrisers finally pulled off a decent punch from an impossible chase, finishing 193 for 8, to lose by 42 points.
The result meant the Kolkata Knight Riders qualified ahead of Mumbai, both teams with 14 points, but the Knight Riders finished with a higher net run rate. They will face the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the eliminator, while the Chennai Super Kings will face the Delhi Capitals in the first qualifying game.
Kishan impossible
Mohammad Nabi opened the bowling alley and the first ball Kishan faced, the second of the match, was swept away by extreme prejudice on the deep midwicket, and he was out. Back on top of the order, fresh off a 25-ball 50 * in the last game, and with a clear mindset that Mumbai needed to pass ball one to make their unlikely bid for qualifying, Kishan appeared a different beast from the young man who had fought so hard that he was excluded from the XI.
Manish Pandey – back in the XI and leading the Sunrisers with both Kane Williamson and Bhuvneshwar Kumar – tried five power-play bowlers, including Rashid Khan, but Kishan couldn’t stop. Siddarth Kaul was crunched for four consecutive limits, Jason Holder’s first pass was gone for 22 points, Umran Malik’s pace was casual. Kishan was 63 of 22 at the end of a power play that gave Mumbai 83-1. He had hit fifty on just 16 balls, the fastest in the 2021 IPL and the fourth fastest all-time in the tournament.
The end of the power play didn’t end the carnage, even Rashid being crushed. Kishan seemed on track for a century when Umran’s extra pace finally brought him in, with an advantage over a short away ball tucked into the goalkeeper’s gloves. By the time he fell, Mumbai had racked up 124 for 3 in 9.1 overs.
