After Knight’s 88, West Indies Women collapse from 171-2 to 210 all together

Pakistani women 211 for 6 (Sohail 61, Selman 2-34, Matthews 2-46) defeated West Indies Women 210 (Knight 88, Taylor 49, Sana 4-30, Sandhu 4-49) by four wickets

The four-wicket fire from Fatima Sana and Nashra Sandhu guided the Pakistani women to victory over the West Indies Women in the fourth ODI in North Sound on Friday. The visitors chased the 211 target with four wickets in hand and nine balls to spare, with Omaima Sohail in the lead with a score of 89 balls. The West Indian women, however, had already sealed the streak and led 3-1.
Asked to strike first after a delayed start, the hosts rolled over Kyshona Knight’s 88 balls of 140 and Captain Stafaine Taylor’s 77 balls before the team collapsed. Medium pace Sana hit early to sideline two openers Hayles Matthews and Deandra Dottin in eight overs, but Knight and Taylor scored 142 points together to stabilize the innings. It was also the highest partnership for the third ODI window for women in the West Indies.

Taylor’s sacking in the 40th sparked a collapse as the West Indies went down 171-2 only to be eliminated for 210 in 49.4 overs. Sana was the choice of Pakistani bowlers, winning 4 for 30 – including two young girls – in her eight overs. Left arm spinner Sandhu took 4 for 49 on 9.4 overs.

Despite the loss of top notch hitters Muneeba Ali and captain Javeria Khan at the start of the chase, Sidra Ameen and Sohail made sure Pakistan crossed the finish line. Shakira Selman and Mathews picked up two wickets each for the West Indies. However, this was not enough to threaten visitors.

“I think we missed around 15 to 20 points,” said Anisa Mohammed, West Indies Women’s vice-captain. Average CWI after the loss.

“At the start of the series we kept saying we wanted to score over 225 points which would give them a bit of competition, and we just didn’t do it today. The pitch was a bit wet at the start so our hitters struggled to score but having Kyshona batting really well and seeing us through, I think in the middle to the end we lost too many wickets at crucial times. As bowlers we weren’t as consistent as we should have been.
