The Accra-Tema motorway
The Public Security Bureau (BPS) has urged the government to restructure and reclbadify the Accra-Tema highway to address the many road accidents and deaths badociated with them.
Among the suggestions of the BPS, it is suggested, among other things, that the government "redefine and reclbadify the highway into an urban expressway, and lace it with traffic lights, pedestrian crosswalks, bus stops and links between arteries. and local roads ".
This was contained in a letter to the Ministry of Roads and Highways by the Executive Director of the BPS, Nana Yaw Akwada, on Sunday, April 14, 2019.
The BPS came to the conclusion as a result of an investigation conducted between January 20 and March 31 on the Accra-Tema Highway, also known as the Kwame Nkrumah Highway.
The Bureau said it "has observed some very disturbing developments along the 19-kilometer expressway".
The BPS also urged the government to take the following actions:
– redefine, with immediate effect, the buffer zone along the motorway and maintain it by removing or displacing all encroachers; whether state or private facility.
-Provide efficient delineation systems throughout the year with an badociated maintenance program, taking into account the high daily traffic volume estimated at 65,000 vehicles per day (2008).
– Provide dedicated police patrol services to enforce speed and traffic blocking traffic rules, as well as escort / security services for disabled vehicles.
